Yamunabai or Mai Savarkar was born as Yashoda on 04 Dec 1888 or Margashirsh shukla 1, Vikram Samvat 1945. She was the eldest of four sons and seven daughters of Ramchandra Trimbak (Bhaurao) and Lakshmibai (Manutai) Chiplunkar. Her maiden name was Yashoda but she was fondly called ‘Jiji’ by her younger siblings. Later, the name ‘Mai’ took its place.
